Selcuk, Turkey

After Ephesus, we had a little bit of time left before sunset so we decided to explore Selcuk. Selcuk is a sleepy little town, but it does have several attractions worth seeing. A full day would have been ideal for Selcuk and Ephesus, but we had to make do with half a day.

Ayasuluk Castle

Didn’t get to go in as it was closed.

The Temple of Artemis

These crumbling ruins are all that remain of the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Rather sad.

Storks

Selcuk is home to a number of storks. We spotted some en route to Ayasuluk Castle on our first day, and more near the train station the next day.

Dinner – Selcuk Pidecisi

It was our first time eating Turkish food and this restaurant set the bar high! The Turkish pizzas (pides) and meatballs were yummy, and there was free dessert and Turkish tea to finish off the meal.

Accommodations – Livia Hotel

Livia Hotel was an absolute delight. From the free Turkish coffee during check-in, to the beautiful Olympus-themed rooms, to the generous included breakfast, we thoroughly enjoyed our one-night stay there.

Breakfast

A feast not just for our stomachs but our eyes as well.
