There are lots of of cave hotels in Cappadocia. It took a while before we settled on Kelebek Special Cave Hotel, located in the town of Goreme. Bonus, it is the sister hotel of Sultan Cave Suites (next door and connected via walkways), so we had unrestricted and easy access to their famous roof terrace. Kelebek was wonderful and we would gladly recommend them to anyone.
Kelebek Hotel
The hotel was located on top of a small hill. Great for views, but a slog to get to via walking. Still, it wasn’t too bad. We didn’t have to do it often as paid activities offered a direct pick-up at the hotel.
The entire property was full of charm.

Every room was different (pictures are available on their website) and we were asked for our preference upon booking. I requested for a bright room with natural light, which Junior Suite 202 delivered, except for the window-less bathroom.
The daily included breakfasts were delightful and a highlight of our stay there.
View from Kelebek
Kelebek had a small terrace in front of the pool which was perfect for balloon-viewing.
One thing to note is that the balloons take off from different locations each day depending on wind direction. Hence, the balloons might be concentrated in front of the hotel one day and to the back of it another. This was where the access to Sultan Cave Suites was especially appreciated, as it allowed us to walk around in search of the perfect view every morning.
Sultan Cave Suites
Over at Sultan Caves, they had a beautiful set-up on their roof terrace.
And the views were indeed amazing.
A balloon took off quite close to where we were. We saw it move slowly through town before rising up.
Sultan Cave’s terrace was really crowded every morning, price of its fame I suppose. The crowds do detract from the experience somewhat but the views make up for it.
