Amsterdam’s appeal is inexplicable. The weather was dreary half the time and the Christmas atmosphere was somewhat lacking, but somehow, we still loved it. The city, with its famous canals, was very photogenic.
There was a double dose of magic one day when fog rolled in just as the sun was setting.
Museums
When the weather got too wet, we hid in museums.
Anne Frank House
Perhaps the most famous house in Amsterdam. No pictures were allowed. I managed to sneak one in of the bookcase which concealed the entrance to the Secret Annex.
Heineken Experience

Eating in Amsterdam
We had a surprisingly great time eating in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam does pancakes well.
The Pancake Bakery
PANCAKES Amsterdam
Avocados were a pleasant surprise.
The Avocado Show
Apple pie, not so much. We saw rave reviews on Winkel’s apple pie but it was very underwhelming.
Winkel
Albert Cuyp market was delightful.
Albert Cuyp Market
I never liked stroopwafels previously but these fresh, hot and crispy ones from Albert Cuyp market converted me!
Yum!
