For X’s birthday, we scooted to Sri Panwa Phuket for a quick 2-night weekend getaway and it was freaking awesome!
Getting There
We took Jetstar from Singapore to Phuket. Phuket looked phenomenal from the skies.
From the airport, it takes approximately 45 minutes to get to the hotel via car. We opted not to take the hotel’s airport transfer (2,300 THB one way) as the airport taxi was significantly cheaper at around 500 THB. There was a small incident where the cab driver suddenly stopped halfway through the ride in front of a travel agency and said he needed to ask for directions. While he was out, a woman popped into the car and started promoting tours. Thankfully, she took rejection in her stride and we reached the hotel without any further hiccups.
Sri Panwa Phuket
Sri Panwa is located at the southern tip of Phuket and it is huge! There are over 6 restaurants, tennis courts, recreation room, gym, spa and a little private beach.
The Habita
Our room was in the Habita wing, the newest addition to Sri Panwa (as of now).
Room – Pool Suite West (Sunset Ocean View)
On hindsight, we should have gone with the sunrise view instead, as both our sunsets were spent elsewhere in the hotel. We had room PS 17.
The minibar and snacks were free.
Bathroom
Room Pool
Great view of the ocean and main pool from the room.
Baba Poolclub
The recreation room at the Poolclub was nice and empty half the time. Had it all to ourselves one night.
Beach
To get to the beach, we had to take a series of steps down from the Poolclub. Passed by yet another pool on the way.
The beach is very, very tiny but there is an interesting bouncy bridge to walk on. The hotel also offers free kayak and paddle board rentals but these activities can only be done at high tide and for us, that was during the scorching late morning and afternoon hours.
Dining
We only had time for 3 restaurants.
Baba Soul Food
Can’t go wrong with Thai food in Thailand.
Baba Pool Club
Breakfast, which is included, is held at Baba Poolclub and it was a pleasure going for breakfast every morning. Plenty of choices, although the Asian dishes generally fared much better than the Western ones.
We booked one of their special sunken tables for the birthday dinner. Turns out the sun actually sets at the back of the Poolclub so we climbed up to Baba Iki (second floor) to catch the glorious sunset before eating.
The menu had both western and Thai options. We went with Thai. 🙂
Most hotels’ complimentary cakes are awful but Sri Panwa’s chocolate cake was moist, soft and not overly sweet. Yum.
Baba Nest
Baba Nest is the main reason we chose to stay at Sri Panwa. You don’t have to stay at the hotel to go to the bar but it makes it a lot easier. Baba Nest is, hands-down, the most amazing bar we have ever been to.
Bar bites and drinks were a tad hit-and-miss but really, you won’t care once you are there!
We will be back!
