Hallstatt

Hallstatt is one of the prettiest towns we have seen. It’s tiny, but that is part of its charm. It didn’t take us long to explore the entire length of the town but it was so quaint and peaceful that we were reluctant to leave.

Hallstatt Skywalk & Funicular

When we first reached the top, the whole area was completely shrouded in fog.

Thankfully, it cleared up after a while.

Food

Tempting scents were wafting from the food stand right next to the church so we grabbed a wrap before exploring the town. It was messy (very drippy) but yummy.

Café Derbl

We randomly selected a restaurant off the main square for lunch. It wasn’t awesome, but it was satisfying.

How to get to Hallstatt from Salzburg:

We originally wanted to do the entire journey via train but were advised by a ticket assistant to do a combination of bus and train instead. As the bus stop was right outside the train station, we yielded to her wisdom. It was pretty straightforward despite having to take 3 modes of transport. Total travel time was approximately 2.5 hours.

  1. Bus #150 from Salzburg main train station to Bad Ischl train station (bus route ends here)
  2. Train from Bad Ischl to Hallstatt train station
  3. Ferry from Hallstatt train station to Hallstatt town (opposite the lake)
