We had no activities planned for our last day in Nellim. The weather was nice (for a change), so we bundled up and went for a walk around the village of Nellim. As it was mid-afternoon, daylight was starting to fade. We hoped to make it to the nearby Nellim Orthodox Church before it got dark.
There wasn’t a single other soul around. Being used to the constant chatter of people back home, the silence was equal parts unnerving and exhilarating.
We reached the church after about 45 minutes. Could have been alot faster but we stopped too often for photos.
The church was made entirely out of logs of wood. Pity it was closed as I would have loved to take a look inside. Still, it was an interesting piece of architecture.
The pink and yellow streaks in the sky had deepened during the time we were admiring the church. They reminded me of northern lights, except that they weren’t green. We may not have gotten an impressive display of northern lights here so far, but the beautiful sunsets and sunrises we have seen more than makes up for that.
I ADORED the colours. The monochromatic landscape was a perfect foil to the delicate pastel tones in the sky. Seeing grey wintry trees rimmed with a dusty pink glow was especially lovely.
