Compared to the previous night’s Desierto, Hotel Tayka de Piedra seemed more like a homestay than a hotel. The customer service was somewhat lacking and the water pressure of the shower was rather weak. Still, to have a private bathroom with working hot running water in this part of the world is nothing to sniff at. No complaints.
Was fairly tickled to see laundry hung right outside our room and outside the restaurant’s windows.
Dining at Peidra was a dull and joyless affair. During dinner, the restaurant was cloaked in darkness and completely empty besides us. The waitresses looked half-surprised when we walked in and took their time attending to us. The food was lacklustre and unidentifiable (waitresses didn’t speak any English). Breakfast was marginally better, simply because you can’t go too wrong with eggs. But the portions were tiny and the selection limited.
The room.
Side note, look how puffed-up our wet wipes packets were! More reminders of the high altitude.
The view from our room was nice. Saw a herd of llamas heading home. Initially, we wanted to go check out the stars outside when it got dark but it was so cold I could not bring myself to leave the room. Decided to take advantage of our room’s two large windows and stargaze from our room instead. The display of stars was indeed magnificent. Wish we had pictures but that’s the price we paid for our laziness!
