Day 2 of the salt flats tour was great. The scenery wasn’t as impactful as day 1’s but it was still beautiful and we had incredible wildlife encounters. The tour route took us back to lower altitudes during the course of the day, hence X was able to keep altitude sickness at bay and enjoy the beauty of Bolivia.
Viscachas
En route to Laguna Honda, a couple of adorable furry viscachas (same family as chinchillas) popped out for a visit. Oscar is an animal whisperer. He got the skittish creatures to nibble bread out of our hands.
Laguna Honda
The pastel shades of Laguna Honda were delightful. And the ground immediately surrounding the lagoon was spongy and bouncy without being squishy. Quite fun to walk on.
Fox
Who knew a fox eats bread?? There was a fox skulking around when we returned to the car and I really wanted a closer look. I was sceptical when Oscar threw bits of bread out to lure the fox, but it actually came forward (albeit rather fearfully). We remained in the car the entire time so as to not scare it off. So awesome!
