Observing Marine Life from the Boardwalks

There’s no need to ever get into the water to enjoy the fantastic marine life of Maldives. If you can’t swim, or just hate getting wet, don’t let it stop you from going to Maldives. The waters are crystal clear, and fishes literally swim to your doorstep. Everything you would want to see, can be seen from the boardwalks. We saw shoals of fish…

Sharks… I actually prefer not being in the water when there’s a shark around, even if it’s a teeny tiny one. I know lots of people enjoy seeing sharks up close and personal. Not me. I totally had a JAWS moment when I saw a medium-sized shark swimming towards me in the distance. The weather that day was cloudy and ominous, so I’m not sure if the lack of sunshine was to blame, but I felt a spark of panic before common sense took over.

And stingrays!! Ever so graceful, every single appearance by these magnificent creatures elicited awe from us.

Let’s not forget the land creatures. On the beach, we saw quite a few of these cute little crabs scurrying across the sand.

Herons often dropped by for a visit as well.
